What We Do
The Institute for Transportation Decarbonation (ITD) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 research organization focused on research and analysis on the fastest, effective, and most efficient solutions to decarbonize the transportation sector.
Transportation sector emissions are the leading driver of global climate change in the United States. Transportation emissions are more than a quarter of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions (27 percent) and are the largest contributing source.
While policy-makers and the broader climate community have coalesced around a goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, there is no clear roadmap for how the United States will transition away from fossil fuels across the nation’s complex, interconnected transportation networks including on-road transportation, aviation, and marine.
